Summary / Reader Response Draft #1

The DJI Matrice 300 RTK commercial drone article by Avetics Global (n.d) states that with its new transmission system the OcuSync Enterprise, hot-swappable batteries that provide up to 55 minutes of flight time which powers the drone’s propulsion system is strong enough to carry a payload of 2700g. Therefore, enabling the flexible mounting of 3 different payloads simultaneously (Avetics, n.d) which includes DJI’s proprietary Zenmuse H20 series. The drone’s in-built AI Spot-Check programme automates routine inspections. Its own onboard AI software recognises any subject of interest and will identify them in future automated missions. (Avetics, n.d). It also has 6 directional sensing and positioning features with options to customise the aircraft’s sensing behaviour to help keep the aircraft and mission safe (Avetics, n.d). The capacity to carry a high payload, feature-packed proprietary Zenmuse series, new transmission system and hot-swappable batteries are just a few of the features which set a new standard above its predecessor.

The higher payload capacity of the Matrice 300 RTK as compared to its predecessor, the Matrice 200 V2 which could only carry a payload of 1450g (DJI, n.d) means that it can be integrated with a vast library of cameras, sensors, and accessories such as spotlights and loudspeakers (Heliguy, 2022) simultaneously. This enables the Matrice 300 RTK to be used for a wide variety of operations by changing the payload it is equipped with. The ability to have a multitude of payloads and yet be able to carry up to 3 payloads simultaneously (DJI, n.d) is something few drones can do. In contrast, the Matrice 200 V2 could only carry 2 payloads simultaneously (DJI, n.d).

DJI’s own Zenmuse H20 series which is only compatible with the Matrice 300 RTK (DJI, n.d) has features that set it worlds apart from its competitors. The new Zenmuse H20T combines 4 different sensors into a single payload which consists of a 20MP zoom camera, 12MP wide-angle camera, radiometric thermal camera, and a laser rangefinder (DJI, n.d). Its plethora of sensors works hand in hand with its AI system like taking a set of zoomed-in pictures using its 20MP zoom camera of a framed area of interest in the wide camera view. This allows the user to view an area in greater detail in addition to the wide view. The radiometric thermal camera also provides the user with the ability to eliminate any risks by capturing precise temperature readings of an area or object or finding people during rescue missions by detecting their heat signatures (DJI, n.d). The new OcuSync Enterprise transmission system on the Matrice 300 RTK enables it to go up to a range of 15km as compared to the Matrice 200 V2 which is equipped with the OcuSync 2.0 that could only go up to 8km (Heliguy, 2020).

An often-overlooked aspect of the awe-inspiring 55 minutes of flight time, however, is that it was calculated with the ideal conditions and with no payload attached. In most cases, there will always be at least a single payload attached to the drone given what it was built for. The number drops to 43 minutes of flight time with the Zenmuse H20T equipped and to a further 31 minutes under its maximum payload according to a graph provided by DJI on the Matrice 300 webpage. Still, the flight time has been significantly increased as compared to the Matrice 200 V2. In an article by heliguy (2020) where they are compared against each other carrying the same payload, the Matrice 300 RTK managed to have a flight time of 46 minutes as compared to the Matrice 200 V2 flight time of 32 minutes. That is nearly a 45% increase in flight time which can be crucial in critical missions. In the same article, the author also mentions how the new TB60 batteries which are used for the Matrice 300 RTK are also hot-swappable, which means the operators can swap out the depleted batteries with new ones without needing to power off the drone, saving time for critical missions. Something the Matrice 200 V2 with its TB55 batteries could not do.

In conclusion, the technological advances in the Matrice 300 RTK not only set the new standard from its predecessor. The features like the longer transmission range along with its longer flight time will be essential to time-critical missions where it is faster to deploy the drone and travel in a straight line by air compared to having to drive and deploy at a nearby location to the area where the mission would be carried out. The Zenmuse H20T also helps increase flight time as it has multiple sensors compacted into a single payload eliminating the need to carry multiple payloads.

 The "DJI Matrice 300 RTK" article by Avetics Global states that it is commercial drone is the latest commercial drone which sets a new standard for the commercial drone industry. It is equipped with a new transmission system, the OcuSync enterprise, which allows for a range of up to 15km. Additionally, it supports triple-channel 1080p video transmission while providing reliable and secure AES-256 encrypted data transmission with the ability to switch between 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz frequencies.


The hot-swappable battery provides up to 55 minutes of flight time with its propulsion system enabling the drone to have a maximum vertical ascent speed of 6m/s and horizontal speed of 23m/s. 


The drone’s propulsion system is also strong enough to carry a payload of 2700g. Multiple payload configurations allow flexible mounting of 3 different payloads simultaneously onto the drone. The Matrice 300 RTK most suitable payload is DJI’s own Zenmuse H20 series. Letter of Self-introduction

 Subject: Self-introduction

Dear Professor Brad,

I am writing this letter to you as a means of introducing myself. My name is Darius Foo, and I am a year 1 Robotic Systems student in your critical thinking and communicating class.

I graduated from Temasek Polytechnic in 2019 with a diploma in mechatronics, majoring in robotics. My interest in robotic systems engineering came from many experiences such as my 7-month long internship at a local robotics start-up, during which I gained valuable knowledge and experience which added to my curiosity and interest in robotics. Whilst I was studying in secondary school, I was in the robotics club for my CCA.

I would describe myself as an extroverted-introvert, I enjoy the company of others and engaging in conversations, but I do value my own solitude. I need to warm up to new people and situations before I am truly comfortable enough to let loose and be myself. When I am required to speak in front of a group of close friends, it is an easy feat as I can just think off the fly of what I have to say. However, when it comes to speaking to strangers or acquaintances in a group setting, that is where I struggle.  Presentations are one such example, I often struggle to enunciate my sentences properly and refer to my slides often, and it being graded most of the time does not help.

I hope that by the end of this module, I would be able to present clearly and accurately, and be able to write flawless letters or emails. These two skills are important for me as I would like to take up leadership roles in my career as it usually means I have more freedom and a higher salary.

Reaction to The Soul of Communication

After reading the article, I have a deeper understanding as to why communication and critical thinking are so essential and how it would it impact my role as a leader in the workplace in the future.

Before we start to communicate, we must think of what we want to communicate out. When we communicate, we cannot just say whatever thoughts that come to mind but rather we need to gather our thoughts and decide what are logical, essential and how to say it in a clear, concise yet polite manner. This not only helps prevent any misunderstandings which might cause not only delays in a project but also monetary loss. It also gives the impression of being empathetic, which in turn helps to make the audience more receptive on what you have to say.

Communication always has to be a two-way street in order to have an efficient workplace. Sure, I may be the leader but what drives the workplace is the people in the back. A leader can only do so much without the support of the staff. Therefore, as a leader, I need to be receptive to what my staff has to say as well.
